Comparing trends with another event

In the Reservations trend, Views trend and Entries trend charts, the Compare with an event field adds the dashed curve of another event of your organization, including past ones, aligned by time elapsed since the start of each event. Search by name or date, permissions, tooltip, messages and limits.

Every trend chart has the Compare with an event field: choose another event of your organization, for example last year’s edition, and the chart adds its curve as a dashed white line. The two curves are aligned by time elapsed since the start of each event: the point ten days after the start of the current event is compared with the point ten days after the start of the other one. This way you see at once whether you are selling faster or slower at the same moment.

At a glance

  • Where: in the Event dashboard, in the charts section below Availability and sales status, and in the Statistics tab. Each of the Reservations trend, Views trend and Entries trend charts has its own Compare with an event field.
  • Permissions: those of the chart. Reservations trend requires View event reservation metrics, Views trend requires View event views, Entries trend requires View event statistics. The same permission is also needed on the event to compare.
  • What you get: a second dashed series on the same chart, with value and original date in the tooltip on hover.
  • Duration: the comparison is not saved and disappears when you reload the page.

Before you start

  • A chart appears only if your role has the corresponding permission and if the event already has data for that chart.
  • The event to compare must belong to the same organization and have a start date.
  • If there are several editions with the same name, keep the date of the one you want at hand.

Step by step

  1. Open the Event dashboard or the Statistics and scroll to the trend charts. What you see: above each chart the title, the Compare with an event field with the hint Search by name or date (dd/mm/yyyy), including past events and, for reservations and views, the View selector.
  2. Search for the event. Type at least 2 characters of the name. To tell apart editions with the same name add the date at the end, for example Halloween Party 31/10/2025 or Halloween Party 2025-10-31; you can also type just the date. What you see: up to 20 suggestions in the format Name — dd/mm/yyyy HH:MM (#ID). The event you are looking at does not appear.
  3. Choose a suggestion. What you see: above the chart Loading trend…. Result: the dashed white line of the chosen event appears and the vertical scale adapts to both curves.
  4. Read the comparison. Hover over a point of the dashed line. What you see: the label of the compared event (name, start date and time, #ID number), the value and, after the middle dot, the original date and time of that point in the time zone of the compared event.
  5. Change the view, if needed. Choose the granularity in View: for entries, Every 15 min, Every 30 min or Hourly. Result: the comparison stays and follows the new granularity.
  6. Remove the comparison. Tap × next to the field. Result: the dashed line disappears and the chart goes back to the event’s own series only.

Fields and options

FieldWhat it meansRules
Compare with an eventSearch for the event to compare. At least 2 characters, at most 20 suggestions, sorted by date. Only events of the same organization, past and future, excluding the current one. Only published events appear: drafts, events awaiting their first approval and events with suspended publication do not appear.
Date at the end of the searchFilters the suggestions by event date.Formats dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd, separated from the name by a space. A non-existent date (for example 31/02/2026) is searched as text.

What happens next

  • Each chart has its own comparison: you can compare reservations with one event and entries with another.
  • The comparison is not saved: when you reload the page or move from the dashboard to the statistics the field is empty again.
  • The comparison changes no data, neither of the current event nor of the chosen one.

Special cases

  • Recurring editions with the same name: add the date at the end of the search or recognize the edition by the #ID number in the suggestion.
  • Compared event further ahead in time: the points that fall in the future for that event stay empty; the line covers only the part already elapsed.
  • Different time zones: the alignment uses the exact start time of each event; the tooltip shows the original date in the time zone of the compared event.
  • Promoter: the search suggests the organization’s published events as for the other roles, but the reservation and entry values count only your channel. Views trend is not available to the Promoter.
  • Read-only shared report: it contains no trend charts, and therefore no comparison.
  • Nightify Business app: the comparison is available only on the website.

Rules and limits

  • Only one comparison event per chart.
  • The alignment is by time elapsed since the start, not by calendar date or day of the week.
  • Only events of the same organization: you cannot compare events of other organizations, even if you are a member of them.
