Information
Band from Oklahoma, Sports are born from the friendship between Christian Theriot and Cale Chronister, two musicians who met as children and bonded almost instinctively. After achieving enormous viral success, they released three highly acclaimed albums, each one distilling their particular elixir of indie pop. With the new album, the duo returned to their origins: self-produced, self-recorded, and self-titled, it is the sound of two people bound by incredible chemistry making music that moves them. Provincial heroes ready to conquer the world, Sports attribute their mindset to Tulsa, their hometown. Far from the lights of Los Angeles or New York, they had to work hard to make their mark. "The odds of us meeting, having the same interests, forming a band and being able to turn it into a career... is like, how did that even happen?" wonders Christian. Sports hit the mark with their first shot: their debut single "You Are The Right One" became a generational anthem of indie pop, with almost 180 million streams on Spotify alone. The song is now their trademark, preferred by fans and also a solid financial foundation. "I think what allowed us to move forward is the fact that we never stopped," explains Cale. "We keep moving, releasing music." After three albums produced with producer Chad Copelin, Sports decided to take the reins back. Opting for self-production, they found a space in their Tulsa and transformed it into their personal studio. "We always lived the same experience with all our albums," Christian recounts, "where the producer held our hand. But this time we wanted a different challenge." Building the studio from scratch, the band fell in love with the artificial grass of a local sports field — so much so that they installed it as carpeting. "We are literally obsessed with it!" laughs Cale. "It's amazing to enter a studio and see grass. Maybe it was fake, but we touched grass every day!" Ten years after their first big success, the Oklahoma group found a way to honor their past while looking to the future. "It's surreal to have that number ten associated with the band," laughs Christian. "It's hard to realize... it makes me feel old, I think." At the heart of everything remains the friendship between Christian and Cale, and the infinite possibilities they continue to find in each other. "We've known each other since middle school," reflects Cale, "and we're still here. For me, it's just the beginning." *** 📌 HOVOC APS and MEMBERSHIP INFO Entry is reserved for HOVOC 26/27 members.
