Information
In the summer of 1841 Alessandro Manzoni stayed in Lesa on Lake Maggiore, but was busy revising The Betrothed.During the long sessions for a portrait, he begins to perceive sounds and then voices: they are the characters from the novel who come to life and reach him.Renzo Tramaglino, Lucia Mondella, Agnese, the nun of Monza and Don Rodrigo press him, contesting narrative choices and offering alternative versions of the facts. The Betrothed on Air thus stages an ironic and direct comparison between the author and the characters, intertwining the original text with the reflections of Umberto Eco, Alberto Arbasino and Piero Chiara.
