Systema Solar – or 19 years of electropical madness at the intersection of electronic music and the rhythms and colours of the Colombian Caribbean. In the universe of "Berbenautika", traditional Colombian sounds such as Cumbia, Champeta or Bullerengue merge with contemporary influences from hip-hop, house and electronica. Add to that committed lyrics as well as anthems to joy and dance. Systema Solar coined the term Berbenautika themselves, using it to describe the art of fusing Colombian traditions, festivals (Verbenas) and sound system culture (Pikós) with electronic music and party energy into an audiovisual experience. Systema Solar was founded in late 2006 to open the MDE07 art biennial in Medellín. The music and visual collective from Colombia's Caribbean region brings together members from different geographical and sonic backgrounds who found in Afro-Caribbean vibrations a wide field of possibilities for amplifying the power and expressiveness of Colombian music.
