Information
Marcello Newman is a multidisciplinary Roman artist. After 15 years of activity in bands released on 42 records, Noia Dischi, WWNBB, and collaborations with I Cani (in which he plays guitar) and Calcutta, Newman returns to the scene with his first solo album, Emotional Park, out on April 20 for Urlaub Dischi. Newman is a bedroom pop nerd, a careful student of American songwriting from Nilsson to Bacharach to Billy Joel to Steely Dan to Magnetic Fields. Emotional Park came together over 8 long years, between small apartments and recording studios in Livorno, Turin and Rome. It is an album that adopts the language of classical American songwriting, in its sunniest declinations, to tell a deep dissatisfaction: with work, with adult life, with love. The ironic simplicity of the lyrics is meant to be an invitation to the listener to make the songs their own, to use them as if they were objects.
