Information
A pioneer of experimental music and multidisciplinary artist, performer, singer and musician among the most iconic figures of the New York scene, Laurie Anderson performs in our Garden with a solo version of Republic of Love. Her musical language spans art rock and contemporary music, distinguished by her use of the electric violin. Initially conceived as a discourse on the relationship between government and love, the project she brings to the stage has taken on various forms over time – from essays to performances to concerts with the Sexmob group – configuring itself as a discourse-performance on the state of art and the world in times of crisis. Anderson brings to the stage a live performance where voice and violin intertwine in an immersive experience. Laurie Anderson is one of the most versatile and innovative artists of her generation in the performative, musical, cinematographic, visual arts and technology fields. Her great popularity came with O Superman in 1981, earning five Grammy nominations and a Grammy in 2018 for Landfall with the Kronos Quartet. Her performances range from eight hours of United States (1982) to ARK: United States Part V (2024). The first artist in residence at NASA, she created The End of the Moon, and her virtual reality works won Best VR Experience at the 74th Venice Film Festival. Her installations have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn, the Moderna Museet and institutions around the world. She has collaborated with Brian Eno, Philip Glass and Wim Wenders. Anderson received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Wolf Prize and in 2024 the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy. Her companion in art and life was Lou Reed.
