Information
Califone founded by Tim Rutili in the late '90s in Chicago after the experience of Red Red Meat; mixes folk, electronics and experimentation in cinematic and intimate arrangements. From the avant-garde spirit of Red Red Meat to the deconstructed Americana of Califone, Tim Rutili's musical metamorphoses have always had a common thread: the bond with roots, fragmented and recomposed according to a unique sensibility, which made his folk-centered visions a reference point for those today grappling with the combination or dilemma of tradition/experimentation. Between 2023 and 2025 Califone released two albums (on the now faithful Jealous Butcher, the label that meritoriously reprinted the entire catalog of the seminal Red Red Meat) intimately linked: Villagers and The Villager's Companion (nine tracks not included in the first). Both confirm Rutili's state of grace and compositional talent and enthuse for sound, ideas and inspiration, renewing the magic of a dusty, rough, visionary, poetic and romantically irreducible folk-rock to trends.
