Information
Umarell is the project of Martin Giovannella, musician and producer from Bologna, born in 2005. The project was born in 2023 with the release of the first album, CANTIERE, published in May. Its roots are varied, but they find a common point in electronics, indie, alternative music and trap, with influences of grime, drum and bass and trip-hop, all characterized by a strong indie sleaze identity. 1000% is an album that tells the exact moment when you stop being a child without yet feeling like an adult. It is a work crossed by grief, anger, irony and need for faith, where each song represents a different reaction to growing up: there is those who builds an armor (Carro Armato), those who transforms pain into collective ritual (Bouquet), those who defends innocence (Sassolini), those who attacks the system with sarcasm (Dissacrante). Everything stems from a constant tension between fragility and display of strength — being "at one hundred percent" to not collapse. Sonically the album alternates sparse and confessional moments with distorted and nervous explosions, passing through popular folk, community choirs, brilliant guitars and varied rhythms. It brings together arrangements of violins and autotune, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, 808s in an instinctive mixture where organic and digital coexist without hierarchies. It is a vulnerable and honest album that changes skin but remains coherent in its intent: to tell the construction of identity when certainties collapse, when family weighs, when faith wavers and when the world seems to ask you to choose who to be.
