Information
Sphaîra by Sara Persico & Mika Oki. Designed for contemplation, Sphaîra is an immersive sensory experience and an audiovisual interpretation of the homonymous album by sound artist Sara Persico. Persico presents these unsettling textures from the real world in "The Center Cannot Hold," the opening track of the album, where she blends her found sounds, rough and grainy, with an evanescent bird song filtering in from outside. Her voice first appears in "Brutal Threshold," forming wordless, breath-filled drones around corroded metallic scratches and distant police sirens. It is as if Persico is communicating not only with space, but also with history: her processes are contemporary, but the elements themselves seem torn from time. Traces of sacred music, folk and opera emerge from layers of temporal interference and emphasize an ongoing cultural conversation between Lebanon and the rest of the world.
