Lero Lero is a collective born as a consequence of a deep immersion in the archive of Sicilian oral tradition music. Lero Lero is also the awareness of having (re)found one's own voice and the necessity of bringing it back to life through manipulation, experimentation and sharing. A portal, a glimpse into a forgotten or worse stereotyped world, set like an insect in amber. A bridge between generations, an effort of empathy towards a world of unknown people, of unknown professions, of transformed landscapes. In the conviction that immersion in the vital scream of salt workers, in the sublime melismas and the sense of challenge of cart drivers, in the desperate love sung by prisoners, can lead to a full self-awareness of what we are, to an authentic artistic expression, to a regained sense of belonging. The continuous artistic exchange between the three curators and founders - the Palermo-based artists Alessio Bondi, Donato Di Trapani and Fabio Rizzo - led them to undertake that immersion and arrive, for the first time in their musical career, at questions of a philosophical and anthropological nature: about what we are, our time, our culture, tradition and its loss, the artistic gesture as expression and restitution to a community whose heritage "is not preceded by any will", citing René Char. The collective, to which Giovanni Parrinello was added on Sicilian percussion, published in February 2024 the first two re-elaborated oral tradition songs (Lero Lero Vol. I) and carried out the first concert tour touching the cities of Turin, Milan and Rome. In September 2024 Lero Lero carries out various performances in Salemi Castle, in Comiso and in Sperlinga Castle. In May 2025 the collective is included by the Department of Culture and Society of the University of Palermo in the programming of the SUD festival - Spaces, Utopias, Drifts and in the same month is invited by the Italian Institute of Culture in Tunis for an artistic residency and a final concert at the B7L9 cultural center in the Tunisian capital. On April 10, 2026, the first album by the Lero Lero collective is released, to be followed by a tour in Italian clubs.
