Yes helped bring progressive rock to mainstream audiences and shape its sound, combining complex time signatures, folk and classical elements, songs structured as suites, and fantastical artwork by Roger Dean. The lineup of Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, and Bill Bruford came together for 1971’s Fragile. The group later went through numerous lineup changes and hiatuses while remaining active with tours and new releases.
After their first recordings in 1969, Yes hit their stride with The Yes Album and went on to release works including Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans, and Going for the One. In 1983, they scored their biggest commercial success with 90125 and “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” produced by Trevor Horn and the band’s first U.S. number-one hit. In subsequent decades, Yes continued recording and performing, releasing Heaven & Earth in 2014, The Quest in 2021, Mirror to the Sky in 2023, and Aurora in 2026.
