ARTISTUnwound
Unwound formed in Olympia, Washington, in 1991, with Justin Trosper on guitar and vocals, Vern Rumsey on bass, and Brandt Sandeno on drums. After several releases and the recording of an album in 1992, Sandeno left the group and Sara Lund joined as drummer. Fake Train, released in 1993, was Unwound’s first album to appear, followed by New Plastic Ideas (1994), The Future of What (1995), Repetition (1996), and Challenge for a Civilized Society (1998). The band also released singles and EPs and toured extensively, often choosing all-ages shows.
The group gradually broadened its compositional approach. Leaves Turn Inside You, a home-recorded double album released in 2001, was its final studio album. For the tour that followed, which ran through 2002, guitarist David Scott Stone joined the lineup, as did Sandeno, who played various instruments. Unwound broke up on April 1, 2002. In 2022, Lund and Trosper re-formed the band with Jared Warren and Scott Seckington, and the new lineup toured in 2023. Vern Rumsey died on August 6, 2020, at the age of 47.
