ARTISTTHE BAWDIES
THE BAWDIES formed on January 1, 2004. ROY, JIM, and MARCY had been classmates since elementary school, while TAXMAN had been their classmate since high school. The band developed songs rooted in rhythm and blues and rock and roll, drawing on artists its members admire, including Little Richard and Ray Charles. Its live performances, known for entertaining audiences, helped build its reputation in venues across Japan.
In 2009, THE BAWDIES made its major-label debut with Victor/Getting Better. The band has toured all 47 prefectures of Japan and played headline shows at Yokohama Arena and Osaka-jō Hall. It has performed at Nippon Budokan three times; the first show drew 12,898 people, with the audience arranged in a 360-degree formation. The band has also appeared on the main stages of FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL and ROCK IN JAPAN FES and has performed at festivals in Japan and abroad.
In 2012, THE BAWDIES brought THE SONICS, the band that inspired its formation, from the United States for a tour. It has also toured and appeared at festivals in Australia, Asia, and Europe. In 2024, it marked 20 years since forming and 15 years since its debut, and released its ninth album, POPCORN. In 2025, after 19 years with SEEZ RECORDS, the band became independent and established its self-managed operation, HOT DOG RECORDS.
