ARTISTTally Hall
Tally Hall formed in late 2002 while its members were attending the University of Michigan. The lineup comprises Rob Cantor on vocals and guitar, Joe Hawley on guitar, Zubin Sedghi on bass, Andrew Horowitz on keyboards, and Ross Federman on drums. The members are also identified by their tie colors: yellow, red, blue, green, and silver. Their sound is described as combining 1960s pop harmonies, a garage rock work ethic, playful humor, and indie rock sensibilities; the band called it “wonky rock.”
In 2004, Horowitz won the John Lennon Scholarship Competition for “Good Day,” a song included on the group’s debut album, Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. After earning bachelor’s degrees in 2005, the members decided to pursue the band seriously. The album was released in 2005 and reissued in a slightly revised version by Atlantic Records in spring 2008. During this period, the group made eleven episodes of Tally Hall Internet Show, a web series featuring sketch comedy and musical performances, and appeared at the 2008 Lollapalooza festival. The second album, Good & Evil, was released in 2011. Partly funded by Atlantic, it came out after the band had parted ways with the label, through Quack! Media, its original Ann Arbor imprint.
