ARTISTSouls Of Mischief

Souls Of Mischief, from East Oakland, are part of Hieroglyphics, an underground hip-hop collective. The group consists of MCs A-Plus, Phesto, Opio, and Tajai. Their debut album, 93 'Til Infinity, came out in 1993 and produced a track of the same name. Their abstract, whimsical storytelling was compared to that of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest.

In 1995, they released No Man's Land, a shift from the expectations of some listeners that nevertheless retained a loyal fan base who respected their artistic development. Souls Of Mischief then went independent for 1999's Focus and released Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution in 2000. Their fifth album, Montezuma's Revenge, followed nine years later and featured a dozen tracks produced by Prince Paul. In 2014, they released There Is Only Now, made with multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Adrian Younge and issued on his Linear Labs label. Additional contributors included Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Busta Rhymes, and Snoop Dogg.
