ARTISTSaint Etienne
Saint Etienne is the trio of Bob Stanley, Pete Wiggs and Sarah Cracknell. Stanley and Wiggs, childhood friends from Croydon, began making party tapes in the early 1980s and decided to focus on music in 1988. The project was initially planned around a rotating cast of vocalists, but Cracknell became its lead singer after the 1991 single “Nothing Can Stop Us”; she later officially joined the group. Their debut, Fox Base Alpha, was released in 1991 and helped them build an audience in England and across Europe.
Over the years, Saint Etienne has brought together samples, pop influences and dancefloor tracks with melancholy ballads. Key releases include Tiger Bay (1994), Good Humor (1998), Tales from Turnpike House (2005) and Words and Music by Saint Etienne (2012). Following I've Been Trying to Tell You (2021) and Night (2024), the group released International in 2025, conceived as its final album and made with a range of collaborators.
