Rainbow, conceived by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, formerly of Deep Purple, established itself in the 1970s with singer Ronnie James Dio. The group released eight albums over a decade. Its 1975 debut, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, includes the single “Man on the Silver Mountain.” With a revised lineup, the band recorded Rising in 1976 and released the live album On Stage in 1977. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll followed in 1978.
After Dio left in 1979, Rainbow changed singers and musical direction. Released that year, Down to Earth features “All Night Long” and “Since You've Been Gone.” The band went on to release Difficult to Cure in 1981, Straight Between the Eyes in 1982, and Bent Out of Shape in 1983. Blackmore left Rainbow in 1984 to reunite with Deep Purple. The posthumous release Finyl Vinyl appeared in 1986. In 2015, Blackmore announced concerts under the name Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow; the band also performed at Monsters of Rock in Germany. In 2017, it released Live in Birmingham 2016.
