ARTISTJames Reyne
James Reyne continued the musical path he had begun with Australian Crawl, starting his solo work in London after two years of touring around the world. His debut album, James Reyne, was released in Australia in 1987 and produced three Australian Top Ten hits. He followed it with Hard Reyne, made with frequent collaborator Simon Hussey, which yielded further successful chart singles. For his third album, Electric Digger Dandy, Reyne also worked with Jim Vallance and Tony Joe White. Released in the United States as Any Day Above Ground, it includes a new version of “Reckless,” a song by Australian Crawl.
Reyne later collaborated with James Blundell on a reworking of the Dingoes’ “Way Out West,” released as a charity single for the National Farmer’s Federation. After a two-year break and a change of record label, he returned with The Whiff of Bedlam, produced by Stuart Levine. The album features the singles “Red Light Avenue,” “Day in the Sun” and “It’s Only Natural,” as well as a version of Steely Dan’s “Only a Fool Would Say That.”
