ARTISTGBH
GBH formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978, with Colin Abrahall on vocals, Colin “Jock” Blyth on guitar, Sean McCarthy on bass, and Andrew “Wilf” Williams on drums. McCarthy left early on, and Ross Lomas took over on bass by the end of the group’s first year. The original name, Charged G.B.H., refers to the British legal term “Grievous Bodily Harm,” with which McCarthy had been charged. The band established itself through touring across the U.K. and made its recording debut in 1981 with the EP Leather, Bristles, Studs, and Acne, after signing with Clay Records.
Their first album, City Baby Attacked by Rats, appeared in 1982, followed by further touring and the group’s first visit to the United States. City Baby's Revenge: 101 Ways to Kill a Rat followed in 1983. By 1986 the band had shortened its name to GBH and released Midnight Madness and Beyond, its first album for Rough Justice Records. That year, Williams left and Kai Reder joined as drummer. No Need to Panic followed in 1987, and A Fridge Too Far in 1989. GBH remained active in the following decades, releasing live and studio albums and continuing to tour. Perfume and Piss came out on Hellcat Records in 2010, and the band released the album Momentum on the same label in 2017.
