One of the last living legends of New York’s salsa boom, Rubén Blades, returns to Germany after 40 years for an exclusive and final concert in Berlin on July 10 at the Tempodrom. Born in the Republic of Panama in 1948, Blades earned a law degree before moving to New York in 1974, where he quickly found himself at the centre of the city’s thriving Latin music scene. Beyond music, Blades has enjoyed a distinguished acting career, appearing in dozens of films and television productions alongside stars such as Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, and Ryan Reynolds. His acclaimed performances have earned Emmy nominations and numerous industry awards. Blades’ songwriting, storytelling, and innovative blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, rock, and pan-Latin influences have made him one of the most influential figures in Latin music history. He was also a prominent member of the Fania All Stars, the iconic ensemble that brought together many of the greatest bandleaders, singers, and musicians of the salsa era.
