Studio Electrophonique is the solo project of singer and composer James Leesley, one of the most unique voices in the current independent scene of Sheffield. He released his debut album on the Parisian label Valley of Eyes Records at the end of last year, with production by Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, The Magnetic North). This first album is the result of a fortuitous meeting between Leesley and Tong, who shared a passion for The Velvet Underground, Something Else by the Kinks, the novels of Barry Hines, Jake Thackray's songs, the North Pier of Blackpool, and improvised darts games in a attic. The result is an album of eleven tracks where emotion emerges from the most mundane details: a misunderstanding around a cup of tea and scrambled eggs, raindrops on the embossed upper bridge of a bus, or the charm of a low-budget seaside trip. Recorded on Tascam tape, this enchanting first album transports the listener into a intimate, warm, and dreamy world.
